In many languages, one can refer to a person as being “competent”. This is a very general term that often does not help to understand the area or areas in which this person can be considered competent. It also does not reveal anything concrete about their attitudes, knowledge, skills and behaviours. Therefore, to deepen this understanding, we turn to the competence-based approach, which starts from defining a competence framework developed for a particular profession, profile, institution, organisation, etc. all the way to professional development steps.
